ROAD TO HANA
Start location: Maui, Hawaii
Time: 4 Hours — 2/3 Days
I didn’t get to do it in Tiny Ohm, but I still wanted to share:
This is one of the coolest road trips I’ve ever done. I did three times so far, but it’s unique every trip and if you ever have the chance to do it, I highly recommend it.
I will say if you get motion sickness or have a fear of heights and steep drop-offs, then this may not be for you. Take some medicine before the trip because this trip has 620 curves and 59 bridges. The road leads you through flourishing rainforests, flowing waterfalls, plunging pools, and dramatic seascapes. Please keep in mind that you’ll encounter challenging turns and narrow (one lane) bridges along the way, so it’s important to exercise caution and take your time. However, the Road to Hana is an amazing drive through some beautiful areas of Maui. You’ll see amazing waterfalls, black and red beaches, rainbow trees, food stands, and so much more.
Most people tend to zip to Hana with a checklist of sights but never get to enjoy it. I think if you plan to do this in a day, you’re missing out and will regret it. I’d plan on spending at least a day doing activities on the way to Hana, and end your day by sleeping overnight in Hana, then use the next day to do activities going back the way you came (same route) or complete the loop and due activities along that way.
If you plan on spending the night, you may consider doing the Reverse Road to Hana.
Here’s some cool stuff I did along the way,
Wow! Gorgeous photos! I wonder what it would cost to ship a Range Runner to Hawaii. Does anyone know of a Runaway in Hawaii?
@graceofforests I may be shipping mine for personal use but it’ll make more money here on the mainland. It depends on where you ship from but it’s about 2500–4500 to ship from San Diego.
Most of the islands on Hawaii do not have RV campgrounds or anything like that. Also, it is illegal to sleep inside vehicles or campers, as they require you to be in a tent or hammock. This is why you don’t see many vanlifers and stuff like that.
If you have land or know someone who does, you can use them though.
