Tiny Ohm didn’t get to Puerto Rico but I rented a van and toured the island.

I flew into San Juan and spent a week there. This gave me plenty of time to check out parts of the city. I finally got to Old San Juan which was much cooler in my opinion. I ended up staying in this area for another week and met some pretty cool people. I was able to rent scooters, bikes, and uber around town for this part but I was really anxious to get to my final destination.

From there I took a small prop plane to Mayagüez and rented this cool van. This side of the island, the west side, and Rincón area are where you want to be for better beaches and surfing. There are some great spots where you can get right on the beach but still be within walking distance of restaurants and bars.

It’s a very fun island, great culture, and people, great waives.…not so great internet. Loved the van, I’d definitely consider having one of these.

looks like an epic trip!  I looked into a trip to PR several years ago… but then there was the big hurricane.  Do things seem to have improved?  Your pics sure are beautiful!  What kinds of costs associated with the van?

@tomg The hurricane has had a big impact but for the most part, it’s fine to go visit. The San Juan area is fine, the more secluded parts are back to functioning just fine.

I went during the surf season so prices are a little higher, but the van was $150 a night for two weeks. I think if you just do a weekend or something shorter it may be $199. I do this in Hawaii also, and I always come out ahead when compared to a hotel/rental car. Plus it’s a great way to see different areas.

@tiny-om Great to know, thank you!   We have rented vans in PNW also, specifically Vancouver Island.  Great way to see the out-of-the-way places!
