Jackson brought up a great idea about:
“perhaps you already planned for this… can your app make it easier for Runaway owners to set up a spur-of-the-moment rendezvous with other owners? For example, could one add a comment like, “I’ll be camping at Xyz campground in Anytown, FL this weekend (or specific dates) — who wants to meet up?” It could be like an instant get-together, planned fast.”
I really like the idea, and I’m making this post so we can discuss the features.
On the tech side, I can make this information only available to members or verified users (user verification system just added, but will need moderators to assist). Form there, I can integrate Google APIs for map and location data. Users would have to accept terms for this, but that would allow a check in type system to show locations on a map.
I’d like a way for people to do this and then others can do a meet up, but it may be better to have this type of thing happen via an event system (possibly using facebook API or a google calendar api).…I’ll make a separate thread for that, considering it could be a stand alone feature or integrated with location data.
Any ideas on how a meet up/location system could be used?
I like the idea But, I’m not overly tech savvy on the details. Maybe if we could opt in/out of a notification of verified members and preferred contact medium(s).
I’d love something like this just to see peoples rigs in person. I live in Panama City and debating (in my head) between the Range Runner and the Venturist. It’s kind of hard to get to The Runaway facility (5 hour drive) in order to compare the two.
@osceolafan This has been a bit more complex than I anticipated. Besides privacy issues, it would require tapping into the google maps/locations API and a few other things. All of which will likely have costs associated with it, especially if it picks up and more members use it.
As of now, this site isn’t expensive to operate and manage and I’d like to keep it that way. If I find a way to implement something like this at no cost, I’ll consider it. For now, the Regional section can be used for meetups.
I hope that will work for now but we can always add more sections and threads as needed.
