New Members: Please help spread the word about the new Runaway Camper forum.
I’m not sure how many others have had issues with the doors but mine would not latch unless you slam them with a lot of force. Even then it was 50/50. I had plans to swap the handles out for a keypad anyway, so I wasn’t too concerned but here’s what I did:
Removed manufacture door handles from all three doors and replaced them with RV Locks compact version with a digital keypad and a fob.
An added bonuses is that if you order them from their site, they will be keyed the same.
it ended up that the issue wasn’t really the handle/locks themselves. Instead it’s the striker plate placement. When I aligned a new striker plate correctly, everything worked so much better.
this was a pretty simple and straightforward modification. All you need is a screw driver and 5–30 minutes depending on how many you’re replacing.
I’ll post better pictures and step by step when I get to a computer .
Did you get a LH/RH set? In addition to the separate keying, It drives me nuts that the standard key locks on the Rangerunner are 180 degrees off but that aspect is not really Runaway’s doing as it seems that the industry only offers LH/RH sets in the keypad type like you have. I’d like to go the same route but its not cheap and will have wait in line for other projects to completed first.
@lumpy-waters I did get different Left hand and Right Hand ones. I love how easy it is now dealing with the doors. Less keys is also a huge plus. I ordered from their site so they are keyed the same but honestly, the designer in me kind of hates them lol.
Not for any functional reasoning, strictly aesthetic. I’m in the middle of gearing up for the weekend and took this quick video. Sorry for the poor quality, as it started raining, but you can see they do not look the same on the different doors. The keys are different on a left hand vs a right hand. Meaning the numbers 1,2 are on top on the right hands, but 1,2 are on the bottom on left hands.
Totally worth it though. They also have a bluetooth adapter that may be useful for some. I am working towards a fleet and do rentals so I’m hoping this helps with a touchless check in/pickup.
I have them on my 3 doors. The keypad lock is only for the deadbolt. A key is needed to lock the handle lock. My Road Ranger is a 2020 version which I bought used. The left and rear door had the keypad locks already installed so I order a right hand lock for the right door. Sure nice to only need to have 1 key to open all doors and also be able to lock and unlock doors with the key pad provided the handle lock is not locked also.
I just ordered one from their Cyber Monday deal but haven’t installed it yet (This weekend most likely and hoping it’s as easy as you say!) I didn’t want to spend so much for all 3 doors so I figured this one is just going to be if ever I lose my keys I will still be able to get in! They look great on your doors btw, I’m excited!
Thanks!
It’s true, you still need a key for the handles. I don’t actually lock those as much though.
I will state, I was just up in colorado camping high up in the mountains. I don’t have the condensation issues anymore, but somehow I think moisture got inside one of the handles. It started to repetitively lock the deadbolt over and over again. I disconnected the batteries and let it dry out, then it was fine.
Not sure what’s up with that and haven’t had a chance to investigate, but I would advise making sure everything is nice and tight.
You mentioned the striker being off? Can you explain what it was and how you fixed it? I just got my RR and like you some of the doors need to be slammed to close them.
Nice upgrade. We have a new Rouser and the only complaint I have is the door lock. Difficult to lock/unlock. Thinking of having the lock cylinder replaced for a better unit.

It just took a little extra effort to line things up. The true culprit I found out was not having the camper level. Once I got it level, everything works fine. I hope that helps!
@clermont-cubby I fond this to be related to leveling. If the camper is not level, the doors are very hard to operate.
